Westminster Abbey to be Lit Red

Westminster Abbey to be Lit Red to Highlight Christian Persecution
Picture
Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral will both be back-lit red in November to raise awareness for Christian persecution around the world.
Lord Alton, an advocate of the effort, wrote: "In November, Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey are to be floodlit in red to commemorate the persecuted. If every parish in the country did the same it might at last wake up our political classes to the scale of the suffering."

"In more than 100 countries Christians are persecuted... In Parliament, we heard of how a Christian pastor in a village of Aleppo was told to convert or die. He was forced to watch as his 12-year-old son was tortured: the boy's fingers cut from his hand. Neither the father, or son renounced their Faith, and both were executed."

"Despite Resolutions being passed in the House of Commons, the American Congress, the European Parliament and the Australian House of Representatives, the British Government still fails to name these events for the genocide that they are – or to lay a Resolution before the Security Council."

Alton hopes that churches around the country will join in the effort to raise awareness of the plight of Christians around the world, but especially in countries like Iraq and Syria where persecution is severest.

INVITATION TO JOIN THE PRAYER MOVEMENT FOR THE PERSECUTED

A Call to Prayer
IDOP-Africa invites you to join Christians around the world in praying with, and for, the persecuted church on Sunday, 13 November. www.idop-africa.org provides you with news, articles, resources, links and contacts to enable you to mobilise your friends, family, co-workers, congregation and community to prayer and action on behalf of those who are persecuted for their Faith.

Social Media
You can also join the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted event on the Frontline Fellowship Facebook page. Please like, link and share it with your family and friends.

Christians Under Fire
Over 400 million Christians live in the 66 countries of the world which severely restrict, or persecute, believers. This year over 220,000 Christians have died as martyrs for Christ. Christian brothers and sisters are being persecuted for their Faith in: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Burma, Red China, Cuba, Egypt, Eritrea, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Lagos, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine territories, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

Targets of the World's Hate
Our Lord Jesus Christ said "If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet, because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore, the world hates you." John 15:18-19

Tribulations
The apostle Paul strengthened the disciples and encouraged them to remain true to the Faith by teaching: "We must through many tribulations enter the Kingdom of God." Acts 14:22

How Firm a Foundation
Our Lord Jesus Christ taught that many believers would forsake Him (Matthew 24:9-10), when trouble, or persecution comes, because of their superficial commitment. Those with no roots in God's Word would fall away quickly (Matthew 13:21).

Mobilise Prayer for the Persecuted
Is your church planning to observe Sunday, 13 November as a Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church? Please visit www.idop-africa.org and www.frontline.org.za websites for resources, information and prayer requests for the persecuted.

"Remember the prisoners as if chained with them - those who are mistreated - since you yourselves are in the body also." Hebrews 13:3

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
