Answer to Prayer
9 July 2011, marked a monumental answer to prayer as South Sudanese celebrated their successful struggle for self-determination and secession from the Arab North. It was a victory against the oppressive Sharia law of the National Islamic Front government of Sudan. Date with Destiny This date with destiny marked the culminative effect of many years of intensive prayer, worldwide publicity, international pressure, and missionary partnership with courageous persecuted Christians in South Sudan and the Nuba Mountains. Victory The longest war, in the largest country in Africa, concluded with an independent and free South Sudan. Approximately one third of Sudans' land surface separated into a new and Independent state. Mission to South Sudan Frontline Fellowship's Africa Overland Mission team is in South Sudan at this time, ministering with soldiers deployed along the Northern border of South Sudan. They will also be conducting Biblical Worldview Seminars, Great Commission Seminars, Discipleship Training Seminars, Evangelism Explosion Workshops, Muslim Evangelism Workshops, Film Evangelism, ministry in schools, colleges and hospitals, and distributing Bibles, Gospel booklets, Evangelistic and Discipleship books and audio-visual materials. The Youngest Country in the World Two years ago South Sudan became the 55th country in Africa and the 196th country in the world. The official name is: The Republic of South Sudan. It's President is: Salva Kiir Mayodit, based in the capital of South Sudan, Juba. Under Attack Since achieving its independence from Sudan, South Sudan has been subjected to bombing of its oil fields by the Khartoum government of Sudan. The oil-rich Abyei and Heglig areas are disputed territory flashpoints where the National Islamic Front government of Sudan has waged ethnic cleansing and many attacks by aerial bombardments and by artillery and rockets. An Island of Christianity in a Sea of Islam Although the people of the Nuba Mountain are culturally, ethnically and spiritually part of the South, they are still geographically under the control of Northern Sudan. The Khartoum government has subjected the Nuba Mountains to multiple aerial bombardments. Bible Colleges have been bombed and bulldozed and churches have been attacked. Targeting Christians Al-Jazeera Television has broadcast footage of the governor of South Kordofan, the indicted war criminal, Ahmed Harun, addressing his soldiers before being deployed to the Nuba Mountains: "You must hand over the place clean… swept, rubbed, crushed. Don't bring them back alive! We have no space for them!" The broadcast footage then showed an army commander standing near the governor declaring: "Don't bring them back! Eat them alive!" Contacts on the ground describe the situation in the Nuba Mountains as: "ethnic cleansing" and "absolute carnage." Pray for Christians Suffering in Sudan Please join with us in fervent prayer that the sufferings of our Christian brethren in Sudan and the Nuba Mountains become known to the Church worldwide and that the persecutors be exposed and opposed. Let us pray that peace, with justice, be firmly established in the independent South Sudan and in the Nuba Mountains and Northern Sudan. Please also pray for our Frontline Fellowship Mission team serving South Sudan at this time.
