Evangelism Explosion in Cape Town

​Cape Town has had the privilege of hosting the Congress of Evangelism Explosion International with representatives from 64 countries participating.

Ministry of Multiplication
Dr. James Kennedy launched Evangelism Explosion in 1962. The President of Evangelism Explosion International, Dr. John Sorensen, reported at the celebration service in St. Georges Cathedral last night, that nearly 7.9 million people professed Faith in Christ through Evangelism Explosion outreaches in 2012. A total of 380,000 Evangelists have been trained so far this year. Every day an average of 150,000 people are being added to the Church worldwide.

35 Years in South Africa
The first EE Congress of Nations gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2010. The celebration service in Cape Town last night also marked 35 years of Evangelism Explosion in South Africa. So far this year 85 EE Clinics have been held in South Africa, with over 30,000 people trained.

Like a Mighty Army
I was introduced to EE, shortly after my conversion in 1977. Rev. Roger Volk was conducting an Evangelism Explosion Clinic at Meadowridge Baptist Church. The first time I heard of Dr. James Kennedy's dynamic ministry was as we watched the film: Like A Mighty Army, outlining the strategic ministry of multiplication.

The Most Important Priority
The first time I met Dr. Kennedy, I asked him: "I hear that you are still involved every week, in door-to-door Evangelism, I am surprised that you have the time, considering your TV, radio, writing and preaching ministry." Dr. Kennedy responded to me with intensity: "Peter, that is the most important thing I do! All these ministries around me, I doubt that many of them will endure long after I am gone. But Evangelism Explosion, this ministry of multiplication, reaching the lost, bringing them to Christ and training them to reach others also, this is far more important than all my radio, TV, and writing ministry." 

Evangelistic Zeal
Dr. Kennedy was a Biblical scholar who earned 10 college degrees, but he never lost the common touch, concern and a compassion for the lost. He was steadfast in his ministerial call to reach the lost and to transform his nation and the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Reformation Faith
On the front of his pulpit, Dr. Kennedy had the name and emblem of German Reformer, Dr. Martin Luther, the Cross in the heart; and the name and emblem of Swiss Reformer, John Calvin, a heart aflame in the hand of God, carved into the woodwork. The great Reformation battle cry from Romans 1:16 was etched across his pulpit: "The just shall live by Faith." 

Transforming Nations
Dr. James Kennedy was passionately committed to the Reformation doctrines of the Sovereignty of God and the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all areas of life. He proclaimed a bold and dynamic eschatology of victory, and was convinced that Evangelical Christianity would transform the world and fulfil the Great Commission worldwide. He sought to confront social evils, by fulfilling the Great Commission and the Cultural Mandate.

Vision
The vision of Evangelism Explosion is every nation equipping every people group and every age group to witness to every person.
