On Friday, 29 March 2019, Christian Liberty Books ran a Creation vs Evolution Seminar and Children’s Programme. We were very excited to welcome 80 guests.
Dr Philip Stott was our guest speaker for the whole of the Seminar. The Seminar programme included the following riveting lectures: The Creation According to God’s Word vs The Creation According to the Wisdom of Man; What Went Wrong with Science?; The Rise and Fall of Millions of Years and The Rise and Fall of Evolution.
After many years as a staunch atheist, Dr Philip Stott was converted to Christ in 1976. Following years of studying the conflicting claims of secular science and Scripture, he actively entered the Creation vs Evolution debate in 1989 while teaching Mathematics and Science. Philip Stott has presented lectures and taken part in debates on the Science/Scripture controversy throughout Southern Africa, Russia, Eastern and Western Europe, the USA and Canada. He is also the author of Vital Questions, The Earth Our Home, the novel Another World and is joint author of How did Turtle Get His Shell? Dr Stott is a Civil Engineer, with B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. degrees from Manchester University. He was awarded the Henry Adams award for outstanding research in 1969 and the J. E. Jennings award (also for outstanding research) in both 2017 and 2018.
We are most grateful for the opportunity to host him, as well as for the time he spent with us and especially for his time and efforts during the day of the Seminar.
The Creation vs Evolution Children’s Programme ran parallel to the Seminar and was led by Emma Vaughan-Jones, together with her lively team: Alieske, Alpha and Rozanne.
Their programme started with Devotions on The Gospel, and was followed by an interesting talk on the Inerrancy of Scripture and Scientific Truths in the Bible.
A film on Dinosaurs was also screened for the kids and this created much excitement and laughter among them. Children absolutely love dinosaurs and the enemies of the Gospel know this. They therefore use their lies about dinosaurs to mislead our children and to drive them away from their true Creation and His Word. Our team showed the kids that Scripture refers to scientific facts, as well as to dinosaurs.
Another topic covered was the Biblical Worldview, which showed the kids how they can look at the world from a Biblical perspective and how this will assist them in making sense of the world around them.
There was also lots of arts, crafts and games. Prizes were awarded to the team that won the “Creation-Relay-Game”, as well as the children who drew the most beautiful Six Day Creation drawings, children who were the most creative with their dinosaur artwork, as well as those who were most creative with their “Worldview-glasses” artwork.
We had children ranging from 4 to 14 years-of-age, all having fun together, socialising and helping one another. There was a very positive atmosphere throughout the day and the children were well behaved. It was such a blessing seeing the responsiveness of the kids, as well as their enjoyment of all the activities.
Both programmes allowed for tea-time for the adults and refreshments for the kids, as well as a tasty lunch, which refreshed all the participants (and personnel), and hopefully energised everyone for the last half of the programme. Our chef received many compliments and we are most grateful to have enjoyed such lovely food.
Thank you so much to all our guests who made the day worth our while. Our team is looking forward to the next Open Day, when we can, once again, inform, equip, host and socialize with our guests. The next Open Day will be announced as soon as it is confirmed.
