Praying for Good Weather Last week, Thursday, the day after I returned from a Mission overseas, we received another 20 foot container shipment of 18 tonnes of Bibles and books. As we are in the middle of a very cold and wet winter in Cape Town, we were earnestly praying for good weather on the day that the container was delivered for us to offload. Logistical Challenges By God's grace, despite intense rain both the day before and after, Thursday was cloudy, overcast and cold, but dry! As the containers cannot fit down our narrow driveway to our stores, they need to be offloaded by hand and are normally ferried by our pickup trucks down the long and narrow driveway. Volunteers With three of our Missionaries in the field, we were somewhat short staffed. When four volunteers arrived from the nearby KwaSizabantu Mission with their pickup truck, we were most grateful for the extra hands and vehicle to help us offload the tonnes of Bibles, New Testaments, books and Sunday school materials. Our First Priority From the very beginning of Frontline Fellowship, in 1982, our highest priority has been delivering and distributing Bibles and providing Bible teaching. On my very first Mission to the persecuted Church in Mozambique, I asked what their greatest need was. Their answers were uniformly: Biblia! They wanted Bibles! The Power of the Word of God Over the last 33 years, Frontline Fellowship has delivered, and distributed, many hundreds-of-thousands of Bibles and New Testaments in over 100 languages, throughout Africa. Many were purchased from the Bible Society. We sponsored the printing of several Bibles in other languages, not available from the Bible Society. However, many hundreds-of-thousands of Bibles have been donated to our Mission for free distribution throughout Africa. Eagles Nest Ministry We are particularly grateful for ministries such as Eagles Nest Ministry Love Packages, who collect Bibles and books from churches, publishers and from individuals who gather all Bibles not being used in their church, or area. Eagles Nest regularly ships us 20 foot containers filled with Bibles, New Testaments, Bible study materials, Gospels, Sunday school materials and Christian books. These include old and new, hardback and softcover, full Bibles and New Testaments, Gideon’s pocket New Testaments with Psalms and Proverbs, pew Bibles and Hymn books which have been replaced at local churches, Prayer books, and other precious resources which we ensure will bless churches throughout Africa. English Bibles in Demand in Africa Many people may be surprised to hear that there are 24 countries in Africa where English is the official language. These countries include the largest nation in Africa, Nigeria, and the newest nation, South Sudan. Countries which used to be part of the British Commonwealth: Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Ghana, Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Even Rwanda, which used to be French speaking, has now made English the official language of their country. So, English Bibles and books can go a long way towards empowering churches in Africa. This is the Greatest Gift! Over 100 million church-goers in Africa still do not have their own copy of the Bible. Church growth in Africa has been so fast that it has been almost impossible to keep up with supplying Bibles to new converts. Then, because of wars, bombings, wildfires, dust storms and insects, the average life expectancy for a Bible in rural Africa can be just over 2 years. Yet, we have seen people still using the tattered remains of Bibles and Hymn books that we delivered to them 15, or even 18, years ago. Frequently we have heard people say: "I have never had a Bible before!"; "I have been praying for years for this!"; "This is the greatest gift anyone could ever ask for. The Word of God, in my own language!" "So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11 You Can Help You can have a part in our Literature 4 Africa ministry. Do you have any Bibles, New Testaments, and Christian books in your home, or church, which are no longer being used? Libraries for Pastors Every pastor, chaplain, teacher and Evangelist who attends one of our Leadership Training courses, receives at least one book at each course that they participate in. We also donate large quantities of quality Christian books to Christian schools, Bible colleges, Missions and university libraries throughout Africa. This month I will be delivering Bibles and books to numerous Bible colleges throughout South Africa. "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God." Colossians 3:16 Prison Ministry There is also great interest in discipleship and Bible teaching literature in many different prisons, which are participating in our Library Programme. Firm Foundations The Word of God is eternal. It stands firm (Psalm 119:89). The Word of God will never return void. It will always accomplish that which it has been sent out to accomplish (Isaiah 55:11). Spiritual Ammunition If you are able to put together some Bibles and Christian books, please let us know. It takes a lot of ammunition to win a war. Bibles and Christian books are the spiritual ammunition we need to help fulfil the Great Commission in Africa. "For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
