"I know there is a God, because in Rwanda I shook hands with the devil. I have seen him, I have smelt him and I have touched him. I know the devil exists and therefore I know there is a God!" Shake Hands with the Devil These are the words of Canadian General Romeo Dallaire, the Commander of the United Nations Mission to Rwanda (UNIMIR). His book, Shake Hands With the Devil (which has also been made into a dramatic film), documents the unfolding catastrophe, and as he puts it in the subtitle of his book: "The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda." 24 Years Ago As the people of Rwanda soberly reflect on the holocaust which was unleased upon them 24 years ago, April 1994, there are still compelling questions which demand answers.

Farm Confiscations without Compensation The National Assembly of the South African Parliament sent shock waves around the country by setting in motion a process to change the Constitution so as to allow expropriation of land without compensation. The threat to private ownership of property and the clearly stated intention to remove Constitutional safeguards and protections for private ownership of property has staggered observers. Most land in South Africa is controlled by the ANC government and over 4,000 farms already acquired from white farmers, remain un-allocated. The Crisis that Confronts Us The cost of unstable, inefficient, expensive and unreliable energy in South Africa is a staggering R89 billion per month in lost production, revenue and wastage. Central government in South Africa is corrupt, complicated, frustrating and unnecessarily time-wasting. Racist Black Economic Empowerment and Affirmative Action policies, with racial quotas not only in business, but also in sports, has led millions to leave this country, including over one million skilled workers. Every skilled labourer on average provides employment for 10 unskilled labourers. Putting God First. “…that in all things He may have the preeminence.” Colossians 1:18 A group of Theological students were given an assignment to rearrange the Ten Commandments in order of priority. There was general consensus that the most important commandment should be: “You shall not murder.” They also agreed that the second most important would be: “You shall not steal.” The third most important commandment was: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.” However, there was a division as to which was the least important commandment. Half of the students felt that the least important commandment was: “You shall not commit adultery.” The other half selected “You shall have no other gods before Me” as the least significant. After some further discussion the class agreed to put the “You shall have no other gods before Me” as the least important of the Ten Commandments. That is an interesting commentary on the perspective of those theological students. When the Lord Jesus Christ was asked which is the greatest Commandment in the Law, He replied: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great Commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38 SEE ALSO - MICHIAH LANCASTER MEMORIAL SERVICE SEE ALSO - Funeral Service “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39 Tragedy at Newlands Dam At 3:16pm on Sunday, 14 January 2018, American Missionary volunteer, Michiah Lancaster, drowned in Newlands Dam, Cape Town, South Africa. Dear Friends Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 Revolutionary Upheavals in Zimbabwe The most dramatic event of the last month was the massive nationwide protest against Marxist tyrant Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. This culminated in the military action which compelled the oldest and longest running dictator still in power in the world, Robert Mugabe, to finally give in to decades of protest and pressure to give up his despotic misrule. Parliament was the scene of unprecedented jubilation as the house erupted in cheers, singing, dancing, clapping and celebrations with members of parliament, leaping up, jumping on tables and flinging their arms high about their heads, shouting with joy and exuberance. The electric atmosphere throughout the country saw many hundreds of thousands pouring into the streets to cheer, shout, dance and sing at the news. A Tale of Two Conferences The Father of modern Missions, William Carey, was a man ahead of his time. In 1810, he proposed a World Missions Conference and he suggested Cape Town as the ideal venue! It was 100 years later, in 1910, that the first World Missions Conference was held, in Edinburgh. Two hundred years after William Carey had proposed it, Cape Town hosted the Third Lausanne Conference on World Evangelism, October 2010.
By God's grace, the Livingstone Fellowship Reformation 500 Hymn Book is now available from Christian Liberty Books. The Highest Praise Congregational singing remains one of Martin Luther’s most enduring legacies. “Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise,” wrote Luther. “…I would gladly see all art, especially music, in the service of Him who has given and created them.” Unprecedented Jubilation In Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, parliament was the scene of unprecedented jubilation as the Speaker of the House read Robert Mugabe’s resignation letter. The House erupted in cheers, singing, dancing, clapping and celebrations – with Members of the Parliament leaping up, jumping on their chairs and tables, flinging their arms high above their heads, shouting with joy and exuberance. Education and Evangelism
This Reformation 500 Mission to Europe was several years in planning and preparation. With 31 October 2017 marking the 500th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther nailing The 95 Theses to the door of the Schlosskirche (Castle Church) in Wittenberg, this was a monumentally important historic milestone that needed to be used for education, evangelism and emphasizing the life-transforming doctrines that made the Reformation of the 16th century the greatest Revival of Faith and freedom in history.
