Jeho vtělení a narození se staly počátkem nového letopočtu. Od té doby se změnil datovací mechanismus měření času. Celý svět rozděluje epochy na období před Kristem (BC) a AD (Anno Domini) „po Kristu“. Ježíš Kristus se stal ústřední postavou historie.
