V Písmu budeme hledat fyzický popis Pána Ježíše marně. Jeho vzhled nepopisuje Matouš, Jan, Petr, Jakub ani Juda, kteří byli během Ježíšova pozemského působení jeho učedníky. Ani jeden z nich nezaznamenal Jeho fyzické rysy. Nevíme nic o jeho výšce, váze, barvě vlasů, barvě očí ani jak měl dlouhé vlasy.
Měl Pán Ježíš dlouhé vlasy? Nevíme, ale můžeme říci, že vše, s čím se setkáváme, jsou jen představy umělců. Kristovy portréty pocházejí z období renesance (15. stol.), kdy dlouhé vlasy odpovídaly tehdejší módě. Dřívější zobrazení na zdech katakomb Pána Ježíše znázorňují s vlasy krátkými. Na téma délky vlasů u mužů Písmo říká: · Cožpak vás sama příroda neučí, že pro muže jsou dlouhé vlasy hanbou, kdežto pro ženu ctí? Vlasy jsou jí totiž dány jako závoj. (1K 11,14-15)
