Every year, since 1995, Africa Christian Action has used National Women’s Day, on 9 August, as an opportunity for outreaches in the shopping centres. This year ACA mobilised outreaches in 8 shopping centres countrywide. Tens of thousands of leaflets and Gospel tracts were printed and five thousand balloons with Scriptures and pro-family messages were produced for the event. Over 100 volunteers took part in the various outreaches in Bloemfontein, Kroonstad, Port Alfred, Chatsworth and throughout Cape Town. Ministering in the Malls
The Director of Africa Christian Action, Charl van Wyk, led the outreach in Khayelitsha where the ACA literature table and display was swamped with enthusiastic shoppers eagerly clamouring for balloons, and literature. The Chairman of Africa Christian Action, Dr Peter Hammond, led the outreach at Somerset Mall. 17 volunteers manned two tables at Somerset Mall for 9 hours, distributing over 1200 balloons, and many thousands of leaflets. There was a very positive response to the evangelistic survey, which led to many interesting discussions, prayer and counselling in the mall. Peter’s sons, Christopher and Calvin were exuberant and competitive to see who could distribute more balloons and ensure that no child passing by missed out. Calvin also shared The Ten Commandments and the Gospel Presentation and other Scripture verses with numerous passers-by and kept coming back to re-supply with more Gospel literature. Even Muslim women dressed in burka’s went out of their way to ask for the Scripture balloons for their children, and for The Christian Liberation of Women leaflet. The International Co-ordinator of Africa Christian Action, Taryn Hodgson, led the outreach at Canal Walk, the largest shopping centre in the country. She had over 40 helpers during the 12 hours at Canal Walk. Many hundreds of Muslims took Scripture balloons and Gospel literature, and numerous evangelistic conversations, discussions and counselling opportunities resulted. The shopping centres were soon filled with hundreds of balloons with Scripture messages. It is very hard, even for an irate atheist adult, to take a balloon away from a child! Many conversations, discussions, witnessing and counselling opportunities came thick and fast, and, at the end of the day, many of the volunteers had sore legs and swirling heads. 12 Years of Salt and Light There was much interest in the ACA literature tables and photo displays set up and numerous passers-by recognised Charl or Peter’s voice from Salt and Light radio! This month, Africa Christian Action has been broadcasting Salt & Light every Tuesday night on Radio Tygerberg for 12 years. This was Africa Christian Action’s biggest Women’s Day outreach so far with newly formed Action Groups (from people who participated in the recent Biblical Worldview Summit) holding similar outreaches in Bloemfontein, Kroonstad, Chatsworth and Port Alfred. Everyone who took part in these outreaches rejoiced at the opportunity to sow Gospel seed and make a stand in the busy shopping centres, being Salt & Light in the community. It was encouraging to receive many positive and enthusiastic responses from Christians passing by. Thank you so very much to each one of you who had a part in organising, sponsoring, praying for, or conducting, these outreaches. Let us continue to pray that the Lord will mercifully and graciously continue to work in the hearts and lives of each one who has been touched and impacted through the literature distribution, witnessing, conversations and counselling, or even through the simple Scriptures and pro-family messages on the balloons. “Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words.” Proverbs 1:20-21 If you are interested in starting a Christian Action Group or Transformation Team, in your area, write to Africa Christian Action for a Starter Pack. It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world…in the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16 Africa Christian Action P.O.
