Yes, for most of history, people have worked a six-day week, in fact my wife remembers having school six days a week in Europe. Though, as of the latter part of the 20th century, it has become more common to have a 5 day work week.
I think the principle can still be held to in that we have so much work we need to do around the house and garden, that Saturday in many ways is able to be put to being productive (even if not commercial) with work around the home. Or, if we do not have many duties at home, we can donate our time to helping with the local church, Mission, animal rescue, etc.
