The National Suicide of Zimbabwe

​The inevitable consequences of Robert Mugabe's racist and marxist policies in Zimbabwe are becoming increasingly apparent.

Zimbabwe's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has declined by over 25% in the last three years. At the same time, employment has fallen by over 33%. Exports have fallen by over 50% and foreign exchange receipts by over 66%. All imported products are in short supply and the hospitals are virtually out of all essential medicines.

The systematic destruction of the commercial farms have destroyed the largest employer in the country, and more than half of the total population of Zimbabwe face starvation.

At least 85% of the people are living below the poverty line and at least 50% are regarded as absolutely destitute. Employment has fallen by a full 33%.

More than half of all the children in Zimbabwe are no longer in school and 65% of all the girls are no longer in any school.

​Life expectancy in Zimbabwe has dropped over 22 years in the last decade. In 1990, life expectancy for a woman was estimated at 59 years, today life expectancy is calculated at an average of 37 years.

Officially, 35% of the adult population are infected with HIV/Aids and 1 million people have already died from Aids in Zimbabwe. It is expected that another 500 000 people will die of Aids within the next 12 months, unless they die of starvation first.

Incredibly, while Robert Mugabe's supporters have been slaughtering most of the wildlife in Zimbabwe's game reserves, destroying whole forests, wiping out what were once some of the most advanced conservation projects in Africa and plundering commercial farms and throwing journalists and critics of his government into prison without trial, Mugabe was invited to speak to the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg! 

There Mugabe addressed over 100 heads of State and representatives from 200 countries, over 300 NGO's and some 4000 journalists. His speech was described as defiant, aggressive, unrepentant and incendiary - attempting to incite racist attacks, violent farm invasions and wholesale looting in neighbouring countries as well.

"Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God? Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit. You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. You love every harmful word, oh you deceitful tongue! Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin …(you who) grew strong by destroying others!" Psalm 52: 1 - 7

Before the government of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia was handed over to Robert Mugabe and his ZANU (PF), a Rhodesian Dollar was stronger than both the South African Rand and stronger than the United States Dollar. In the mid-1970's, one Rhodesian Dollar could buy three American Dollars. Today one US Dollar can buy Z$750 on the streets of Zimbabwe.

Even under war conditions with total international economic sanctions, Rhodesia had the lowest unemployment and the lowest crime rate in the world. Today, in peacetime, even with foreign aid, Zimbabwe has one of the highest crime rates and skyrocketing unemployment rates in the world. "Freedom" under Robert Mugabe has proved to be infinitely worse than the "oppression" under Ian Smith.
