Bibles for Africa

Praying for Good Weather
Last week, Thursday, the day after I returned from a Mission overseas, we received another 20 foot container shipment of 18 tonnes of Bibles and books. As we are in the middle of a very cold and wet winter in Cape Town, we were earnestly praying for good weather on the day that the container was delivered for us to offload.

Logistical Challenges
By God's grace, despite intense rain both the day before and after, Thursday was cloudy, overcast and cold, but dry! As the containers cannot fit down our narrow driveway to our stores, they need to be offloaded by hand and are normally ferried by our pickup trucks down the long and narrow driveway.

The Word of God Never Returns Void
77 Volunteers helped us distribute over 7,500 tracts, leaflets and Gospel booklets and over 2,000 balloons with Scripture messages on them, in 4 shopping malls on Saturday, 9 August (National Women's Day) in South Africa.

Mission Update from the Field - July 2014

Greetings in the precious and wonderful Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!

By the grace of God, we have successfully embarked on our Overland Mission to Congo. We had many sleepless nights as we were busy with thorough preparations for the launch of this Mission. We have learned that "Victory loves Preparation", so we worked late into many nights preparing, packing, fixing, building, water-proofing, and upgrading our equipment, gear, cargo, literature, and other items that would prove helpful in the field.

Mission to Mpumalanga - March 2014

25/3/2014

Dear Friends

Mpumalanga Mission
Three of us drove up from Cape Town; Taryn, the Co-ordinator of Africa Christian Action, missionary intern, Ryno and I drove 5,000km to and around Mpumalanga and back. Michael and Renee drove up from KwaZulu/Natal for our intensive Mission to Mpumalanga.

Through Flooded Rivers
From the beginning, this Mission was complicated by unprecedentedly intense torrential rain, which swelled the rivers to bursting their banks and flooded large areas. Several of the key bridges we had to cross were rendered impassable by the swollen and fast-flowing rivers. Michael commented that not even on his Africa Overland Missions to Sudan, had he faced such obstacles in river crossing as our team had to deal with on this Mission to Mpumalanga!

Great Commission Course - Jan 2014

Great Commission Course - Jan 2014
Participants came from as far afield as New Zealand, United States of America, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, the Congo and from all over South Africa. At the Great Commission Camp, which formed the first part of our three-week Great Commission Course, we also had participants from Holland and Russia.

Stretching Minds and Muscles
Each morning, with the exception of Sundays, began with rigorous PT and frequent runs through the forest and around Rondebosch Common. Most mornings were filled with Devotions and lectures on a wide range of Mission subjects. Each afternoon was packed full of practicals and outreaches, on the streets, in townships, at taxi ranks, at railway stations and in shopping malls. We conducted child Evangelism and open-air services, door-to-door Evangelism in Muslim and Hindu areas, mass literature distribution at bus stops, taxi ranks and train stations, and ministry in the Malls and on the streets of Cape Town.

Africa is Being Won for Christ

Literature for Africa
We praise God for another 17 tonne, 20-foot container shipment of Bibles, books and Sunday school materials. The pallets of Bibles were immediately ear-marked for our Livingstone 200 outreaches in Zambia and Zimbabwe. These have already been prepositioned for our Mission teams to distribute to churches, mission bases, schools and colleges in these central African countries where Dr. David Livingstone first pioneered the Gospel in the 19th century.

Mission to Sudan
Despite dangers of ambush, travelling through bandit territory, instability and many frustrating mechanical breakdowns, including one occasion when they came under fire, our Missionaries succeeded in ministering throughout Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Western Equatoria, Lakes and Bahr el Ghazal. In two months they conducted 150 meetings in South Sudan, including Great Commission Seminars, Biblical Worldview Seminars, Evangelism Workshops and Discipleship Seminars. They ministered in five military bases and amongst soldiers deployed on the Northern border of South Sudan. The team reported that they had the privilege of seeing the abundant fruit of Chaplains who were first trained by Frontline Fellowship in the middle of the war in 1996. These men are still making a great impact for the Kingdom of God, planting churches and impacting military units for Christ.

Missions in the Mall

Cultural Battleground
Every year, since 1995, we have conducted outreaches in shopping malls. This was the 18th year of our outreaches in the shopping centres of Cape Town. Shopping malls are the modern-day marketplaces and gateways to the city. Indeed, thousands of people seem to spend a significant part of public holidays at a mall! With advertising that often promotes anti-family values, and many anti-family films at cinemas, malls are battle sites of the World War of Worldviews. Making a stand at a mall can therefore seem intimidating, but as our new banner proclaims, we boldly seek to be on the Frontlines of the Fight for Faith, Family and our Future. Our mall outreaches are also part of our strategy to inform and involve Christians in making a positive difference in society.

Gaga Concert Outreach - December 2012

GAGA CONCERT OUTREACH
On 3 December, as 60,000 people flocked to Cape Town stadium, we mobilised a Gaga Concert Outreach team of 35 people who were there to meet the Gaga fans with a friendly smile and a question. "Did you get one of these?" We distributed over 6,000 Gospel leaflets including: "Going Gaga? Here is what to Expect…", which used some of Gaga's lyrics to springboard into a Gospel message.

Hostile and Positive Reactions

Some were hostile, some swore at our team members and tore up the tracts. But others could be seen sitting and reading the tracts, or standing in groups discussing its content. Some were grateful and thanked us.

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in Heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the End of the age.” Amen.
