The communists burst into the church during the church service. “You Christians — you say that you worship the Lamb — well here is the lamb!” The cuban taunted the worshippers as his men carried in a lamb and, as the horrified people watched, they cut the lamb’s head off and started pouring the blood over the believers. “You say ‘the blood of the Lamb is shed amongst you’. Well, worship the lamb!” The head of the lamb was placed mockingly on the pulpit and the people were forced to bow before it.
“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.”
On many occasions the communist forces in Angola have placed the heads of cattle or an AK47 on altars or pulpits and demanded that the Christians commit idolatry and bow before them. They have walked into services during marriage ceremonies and forcibly taken the bridegroom away for their army. On occasions they have even taken the Bible off the pulpit and thrown it by the door. “You may all leave—one by one—just spit on the Bible and you can go free. If you don’t spit — we will kill you.”
“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him.”
Christians who have escaped from communist concentration camps and prisons have told of how they were often tortured by the Marxists: “We don’t want to kill you, and send you to heaven with God,” they were told. “No, we want you to curse Christ and spend eternity in hell with us.”
“What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul.”
