Mission to Mpumalanga By God's grace, I had the privilege of being invited to conduct a Missions Conference in Mpumalanga. The Message in the Music The first meeting was a Youth Rally where I had been asked to speak on The Message in the Music. Before I had even taken the podium to begin the presentation, the music group, which had led the praise and worship, filed out, carrying their musical instruments with them! A missionary's job description is to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable. Testimonies of God's Grace
Discussing music from a Biblical perspective is considered controversial by many. Yet, despite the volatile subject, I received numerous positive testimonies from those who stayed for the presentation. One woman, who conducts concerts throughout the country, told me that this had confirmed what God had been speaking to her for some time, that she must only use her voice and musical talents for the Kingdom of God. Another person related how she had been deeply involved in the music of the world and praised God that she was now set free from this trap. At the Sunday service a young man came to me and showed me his i-pod. He had deleted over a thousand songs since the Youth Rally on Friday! The Truth Sets Us Free On Saturday morning I was invited to speak at a lavish breakfast on the subject of Propaganda, Perceptions and People. Despite the controversial nature of the advertised topic, the hall was packed out and the organisers had to lay out extra tables. One woman testified how she had been estranged from the church for decades. When she had come forward with questions, that her university studies had stimulated, her pastor had told her that she must not ask questions and must "just believe". She expressed appreciation for the logical foundations for the Faith which came through in the presentation. Answers She purchased an Answering Skeptics MP3 boxset from the book table and listened to many of the lectures throughout the rest of the Saturday. This woman later testified on Sunday how the Answering Skeptics MP3 had answered questions which had troubled her all her life. She was now at peace with God, reconciled with her parents, and back in church. Tent Evangelism in Township On Saturday evening, the pastor took me to the township of Umhlozi, for an outreach. Local Christians had set up a tent on an open piece of ground and I had the opportunity to preach for an hour, through interpretation, to a crowd of township residents of all ages. After presenting testimonies of Christian courage under persecution in Sudan and Northern Nigeria, I confronted them with the Laws of God. Using one of the million dollar notes from Way of the Master, I invited one of the young people to come up and receive a wad of these million dollar evangelistic tracts, to hand out to everyone in the tent who was interested in their eternal destiny. Would you sell one of your eyes for a million dollars? People shook their head: No! Your eyes are precious to you. Yet they are only the window to your soul. There are many people who would not sell one of their eyes for a million dollars, but they give away their soul for just a few cents. What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses his own soul? Are You a Good Person? Using this note as an illustration, I asked the million dollar question: Will You Go to Heaven When You Die? I asked if they were good people. Many nodded, Yes, they were "very good people". So I challenged them: Have you ever told a lie? Almost everyone nodded and muttered in agreement that yes, indeed they had. Have you ever stolen anything? Stunned silence at the question. Have you ever committed adultery? Even more profound silence and a look of shock on many faces that anyone would dare ask the question. Have you ever looked with lust? Jesus said that to look with lust is like committing adultery in your heart. Have you ever murdered anyone? The silence was profound. Have you ever hated anyone? The Lord Jesus Christ taught that to hate somebody is to commit murder in your heart. Have you ever taken God's Name in vain? That is blasphemy and God will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His Name. In the Light of Eternity I then challenged the audience: When you die, you will have to stand before a Holy God. What will He do with you if you claim to be a good person, and yet are a lying, thieving, blasphemous, murderous, adulterer at heart? Conviction and Conversions As I expounded on what our Lord taught concerning the broad way to hell and the narrow way to life, the wise man who built his house on the rock of God's Word and the foolish man who built his house on the sand of human effort, it was clear that everyone was listening most intently. Many responded enthusiastically, prayed with me after the outreach and received Gospel literature. Praise God for Answered Prayers The Missions Conference concluded with the Sunday morning service on Being Relevant and Compassionate in a Broken World, and on Sunday evening with How Can a Loving God Condemn Anyone to Hell? Each service was followed with many questions, discussions and times of counselling. There were also an encouraging number of testimonies of answered prayers and transformed lives. Classic Exposé of Communism Back in Print Rev. Arthur Lewis served as a Missionary in Africa for over 50 years. It was Arthur Lewis who first exposed the insidious spread of Liberation Theology and the devious work of the World Council of Churches in using church funds to advance communist terrorist movements. His book, Christian Terror, created a sensation as it documented how missionaries, pastors, and other Christians were being brutally murdered in Rhodesia by Robert Mugabe's ZANU terrorists. Scandalous Church Funding of Terrorism These terrorists were the recipients of generous World Council of Churches funding. As a result, even Readers Digest picked up the scandalous story and the Salvation Army and Baptists withdrew their membership from the WCC in protest. Christian Terror has now been republished by Christian Liberty Books. It is 80 pages and includes 23 photographs documenting communist atrocities in Zimbabwe.
