![]() Anthony was a remarkably dedicated Christian, whose possessions could fit into his backpack. Everything in excess of his bare necessities he gave away. Anthony was a zealous evangelist, a patient and compassionate counsellor and a calm and cheerful co-worker in times of crisis. His testimony of single-minded devotion to the Lord continues to challenge, convict and compel others to give our all for Christ.

The communists burst into the church during the church service. “You Christians — you say that you worship the Lamb — well here is the lamb!” The cuban taunted the worshippers as his men carried in a lamb and, as the horrified people watched, they cut the lamb’s head off and started pouring the blood over the believers. “You say ‘the blood of the Lamb is shed amongst you’. Well, worship the lamb!” The head of the lamb was placed mockingly on the pulpit and the people were forced to bow before it. Emilio Castro, when General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, taught that: “God works through Marxist revolution in order to bring all men together” and he stressed the need for Christians to participate in revolution. (OMS Outreach 3/81).
In the 1970’s and 80’s, the World Council of Churches (W.C.C.) gave over $6½ million to terrorist groups – most in Southern Africa (including the Marxist SWAPO, ANC and ZANU). (Ecunews 1985). The South African Council of Churches (S.A.C.C.) was linked to brotherhood to the Marxist terrorist organisation, the ANC. (Eloff Report, page 432). Dr. Beyers Naudé, when General Secretary of the SACC, claimed that the ANC terrorists who killed themselves whilst throwing hand grenades into a home “died for freedom.” (Ucanews 1985). Rev. Canaan Banana, ex-president of Marxist Zimbabwe, declared that “Every time I see a guerrilla, I see Jesus Christ!” (The Herald, 2.11.80). Bishop Desmond Tutu hailed the take-over of Mugabe’s Marxist ZANU as “the arrival of the Kingdom of God in Zimbabwe .” (Ecunews 11/1980). Dr. Allan Boesak called for prayer for the downfall of the government ( 16 June 1985 ) and preached in front of a huge Russian flag ( 21 July 1985 ). Bishop Tutu further stated that “One young man with a stone in his hands can achieve far more than I can with a dozen sermons” (Daily Telegraph), and “If the Russians were to come to South Africa most blacks would welcome them as saviours!” ( St. Paul ’s London ). ![]() COLONIALISTS: Although avowed "anti-colonialists", the Soviet Union was the last major colonial power on earth. Russians made up only half of the Soviet Union's population. There were 63 major national groups and over 127 languages in the vast Soviet Empire, which included such nations as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan, Kirgizia and Turkmenistan. Large sections of Poland, East Prussia, Finland and Romania were also annexed to the Soviet Union. Volume 2 1987
After seizing power in 1974, Ethiopia’s Marxist-Leninist Dergue (Armed Forces Co-ordinating Committee) launched a campaign against ‘Capitalism’. They prohibited the private sale of farm products, executed thousands of students and skilled workers, imprisoned tens of thousands more, and caused over 2-million refugees to flee from their homeland. With the encouragement of their 4 000 Soviet, 2 000 East German and 15 000 Cuban ‘military advisors’, the Marxist government used foreign aid to underwrite its military build-up to the, point where today Ethiopia has the largest standing army in Africa —300 000 troops. After having shot one of the attackers at the St James Massacre, for many months thereafter I struggled with the idea of whether I, according to Biblical principles, had to love the perpetrators of the crime or whether my hatred for them was justifiable. After all, the Bible tells us to love our own personal enemies, but there is no reference to Christians having to love God's enemies.

“The Cuban soldiers came and locked people into huts — burned them alive, others—their arms and legs were cut off. They ripped away my baby out of my arms and swinging her by the legs smashed her head against a tree. . .I was pushed into a lorry with other women. Later I was raped by ten Cubans. Those who resisted were stabbed by bayonets.” Severina Chilombo is one of many mutilated women victims of Marxism in Angola, who now live in ‘the village of the living dead’ in Southern Angola. “The Cubans took my son who was 12 years old —they shipped him to Cuba. I tried to stop them but a Cuban cut off my arm with a bayonet. Madalena Ngueve “When the Communists came, all the older men were killed, the boys were taken to the army, the young women to prison. The pregnant were cut open with bayonets.” Veronica Kahali "The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it." Proverbs 27:12
It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark. But Noah and his family survived the flood by building the Ark and stocking it in obedience to God (Genesis 6:11-22). God led Joseph to use the years of plenty to store up sufficient grain to feed his people through the seven-year famine (Genesis 41:33-36). Volume 1 1993
While many Christians in the West sit back in comfort and assume that all persecution of the Church has ended, almost a thousand believers die as martyrs for Christ - every day. While many have presumptuously announced a new era of peace, churches continue to be burnt to the ground in Nigeria, Christians are executed in Pakistan and crucified in Sudan. To those of us involved in serving the suffering Churches and speaking up for the persecuted it is inexplicable that most of the Christian publications, programmes and prayer meetings ignore the reality of the war being waged against God and His people. |
