“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Matt 10)
Consider this call given to those who shared the dust of Christ’s trail. Their little pep talk here entailed the expectation of sentencing, flogging, dragging, death, hatred, persecution, flight! Why send them so? What comfort was in that? (1) To bear witness. (2) So walked their teacher. (3) They were worth more than many sparrows, which he faithfully cares for—so no worries! A “problem-free philosophy for the rest o’ your days” would we only trust what Christ has said. Think not lightly on your salvation. Think no less on Him who sends out sheep among wolves.
We recently received word from friends in the Nuba Mtns that five believers have just been sent out into the surrounding country to share the good news of the kingdom of God. These are the first indigenous missionaries to the Nuba Mountains! Praise God for these workers he has raised up for the harvest. Pray that his Spirit would work powerfully through them during these next months. Pray, as Paul for the Ephesians, that God would grant these men strength to further comprehend those incomprehensible depths of his love toward us in Christ (3:14-21), and that God would open doors for them to boldly proclaim the mystery of the gospel, clearly as they ought to speak (6:18-20).
…in all things give thanks!
More than sparrows,
Dan de Villiers
