“Brothers, pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honoured…”
2 Thessalonians 3:1
Dear Friends and Family
Thank you for praying for the Biblical Worldview Summit, Great Commission Course and March for Life.
Biblical Worldview Summit and Great Commission Course
Despite juggling his security work with being on the leadership team for the GCC, Abrie was able to give two devotions, and three lectures, and lead some of the outreaches at both the BWS camp and GCC. These outreaches included several street outreaches in Hermanus during the BWS, an outreach outside the new Marie Stopes abortuary in Rondebosch, door to door ministry and an open-air service in the drug-infested area of Bellville South and door-to-door in the Muslim area of Bo-Kaap (during the GCC).
Understanding Cross-Cultural Communication
In September last year, Abrie started studying Module One of Chronological Bible Story Telling (Creation to Christ) through New Tribes Mission (now known as Ethnos 360). At the end of each Lesson, there are Discussion Questions that must be answered. After Abrie completed these assignments, I helped to add my own responses to his. We have now completed Module One (Creation to Christ), Two (Book of Acts) and Three (Romans and First & Second Thessalonians) and are progressing through Module Four, which focusses on Understanding Cross-Cultural Communication. The study on the Book of Romans was very helpful in understanding the flow of arguments the Apostle Paul made in communicating essential doctrines. We believe these studies will be invaluable in helping Abrie to preach and teach more effectively in the field, especially in a rural African context.
Upcoming Kenya Mission
In April, Abrie will be going with a team from our church, Goodwood Baptist, to Kenya, to minster to the Rindille people. Most Rindille are concentrated in the Kaisut Desert and Mount Marsabit in Kenya's northern Eastern Province. The Rindille people only received copies of the New Testament in their language in 2018. The Old Testament is still being translated into Rindille.
Further Field Plans for 2020
The Kenya Mission will be followed closely by another Mission to the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. In August, Abrie will be conducting a two-week-long Great Commission Seminar in Zambia and then, Lord willing, Emma and I will be joining him in Mozambique, where we will stay with our missionary friends, the Westraads, in Xai Xai, as a base for conducting ministry in the area.
Our Desire to be Full-Time Missionaries
Abrie is currently working five days a week of security work in order to subsidise our income and pay for his much needed dental surgeries. Abrie plans to take unpaid leave in April and May in order to go on the Kenya and Sudan Missions. He desires to be a full-time missionary and plans to resign from his security work from the end of July, if we have raised enough support to cover our monthly expenses (R10 000).
Hay, Hay it Was Emma’s Second Birthday!
Emma turned two on 7 January! We held her birthday party on 1 February. It was a horse-themed party and what would a horse party be without a horse! Abrie fetched one of the horses he uses for security patrols, and brought it here to Livingstone House. All the children got to have a ride on La Piet (name could be La Petite – we are not sure) down the driveway and back. They all seemed to thoroughly enjoy it and La Petite was showered with attention (and carrots!). It was a great privilege to have Abrie’s parents join us for the occasion, especially as Abrie’s talented mother could bake the amazing horse cake.
