Needless to say – traveling in Zambia was not the most pleasant, and there were countless police-stops with corrupt people looking for bribes. We held a Reformation Conference in Lusaka (the capital of Zambia) at the Justo Mwale University of Theology. Pastors from all over Zambia and even other countries like Malawi and Zimbabwe attended. They were enthusiastic about Reformation and Revival. They were eager to learn and had lots of questions about questionable practices in the Churches in Zambia.

“Do your best to present yourselves to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the Word of Truth.” 2 Timothy 2:14

Tanzania
While our team leader went to Tanzania for Conferences with pastors, his wife and I stayed in Kabwe (a town in Zambia) to do some local ministry there. We thank God that he travelled safely on his own and got through the border, even though he was harassed by corrupt border officials. He was warmly welcomed in the rural villages and his ministry and teachings was greatly appreciated.

Kabwe Children's Ministry
Mean-while in Zambia, the two of us filled our time visiting different ministries in and around Kabwe to help them and learn from them. We went to a private, Christian school to give Devotions in the classrooms. They invited us back to do Devotions again and also to attend their Assembly. The principal explained that they struggle to keep their teachers and give the children a good education as so many cannot pay school fees. We gave them Bibles for all their teachers.

Bethesda
In the some parts of Zambia people with disabilities are looked down upon. Children are either used for labour in the house, or they are just left in a corner and ignored. A group of missionaries from Operation Mobilasation started a school called Bethesda for children with mental and/or physical disabilities. About 40 children from ages 2 to 22 are picked up every day to come to this very basic, 3-classroom school, where they are taught to read and write, make food and work with money. They normally have two teachers per classroom who have to see to all the needs of their group of children, whether mentally or physically disabled, or both. It was a privilege to help them feed and teach and help the children. We had to learn how to give emotional support to these children who so desperately need it, although you either could not speak their language, or they could not talk at all. This was a very humbling experience.

“ Whoever receives one such child in My Name receives Me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him to have a millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” Matthew 18:5-6

<div style="height: 20px; Children are classified as vulnerable if their parents cannot, or will not, provide education for their child. Mercy House was started by missionaries in a township. They take vulnerable children in during the day so they have a safe place to play (ach to get us out. way from violence in the house and in the streets) and to teach them reading and writing and basic maths so maybe they can go to a school, if they can get a sponsor for the child.

While I was with them we went out to a nearby field with the 50 or so children to do some sports and play games. We started with singing songs and I was astonished to see our numbers grow by the minute. By the time we divided into groups for the games, more than 100 children had come from their homes, or from where they were playing in the streets, to join us. I specifically remember one shy girl, about 4-years old, who joined us with her baby sister on her back. We played and ran and sang for 2 hours and at the end could share a Gospel message with them and end in prayer. The message I gave was very short and difficult to give because of the language barrier and it is very difficult to keep 150 excited children's attention while you talk with a translator. We did this twice that day. The second time I was guiding a blind girl who was eagerly participating in as much as she could, especially the singing. She was a great inspiration to me.We gave the staff good Bible study material to go through with the children.

Obstacles
We planned to go visit a school for deaf children, just outside of town. Most of their patients have TB or AIDS. I mainly helped with the two children who suffered from severe malnutrition. A three year old boy was left home alone for days at a time while his single mother went to parties, until neighbors called the police about all his crying. He weighed 6kg when he was admitted and is deaf in both ears, and a one-and-a-half year old girl who had both her parents, who both had jobs, but received so little income that they could not take care of their children. I bathed, fed and played with them. I believe we should minister to people's soul, mind and body, therefore working in the hospice was very productive for me, even though I could not speak the language of the patients, I could talk to the staff and other volunteers. I tried to share the Gospel with one German girl who started asking me about what I do and what I believe. I thank God for this opportunity.

“I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for Salvation for everyone who believes...” Romans 1:16

Namibia
Our team was reunited and we travelled back to Namibia. At the beginning of our mission we met a few people in Namibia and they asked us to come to them again on the way back. We had wonderful fellowship with the Namibians. They received us with open arms. Many of the people told us about the lack of faithful, Bible-based Churches in Namibia. As a result they started Home Fellowships or House Churches. In one town they arranged a meeting where people from many different Home Fellowships and Churches got together to worship and have unity in the Body of Christ. We could minister to the children and families, listen to their struggles, encourage them from the Scriptures and pray for them.

We held an Evangelism Conference in a township with a new church plant. We explained the need for Evangelism and different methods to help them share the Gospel effectively. After that we took them for door-to-door outreaches, which they returned from energized and enthusiastic! Since all the participants were women we thought it would be a good opportunity for the women of our team to minister to them. The next day we started by talking with them about Biblical Womanhood. We had some discussion and learned from their experiences and problems they face, so that we can comfort and encourage them. One women shared with us that her husband is not a Christian and he opposes her Faith. Many women said that it is hard to be a woman in their culture because the men are lazy, drunkards and are not good husbands. They need a lot of prayer for the Holy Spirit to help them be godly women and good wives, despite their difficulties, so they can be examples of the power of the Gospel.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven” Matthew 5:10.

Lessons learned
Most importantly I learned more about who God is and how He works with His Church in other countries too. Getting to know the cultural differences was very interesting for me. Driving around with the locals to see how people live and asking them questions about their lives, spiritual condition and the political and economical situation in their countries were most edifying. Teamwork is crucial in missions and the lack of it could be catastrophic, but God was very gracious to us and gave us a good team dynamic. Most of all I got to know myself in these kinds of situations, being tested and tried by different obstacles. I regularly got overwhelmed with, or exhausted by, people or situations, especially when everything was new. God helped me a lot during these times, especially through my personal quiet times and Bible reading. This whole experience is just another confirmation that this is where God wants me to be and that I am called to the Mission Field.

“The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with Him, we will also live with Him; if we endure, we will also reign with Him; if we deny Him He also will deny us; if we are faithless, He remains faithful” 2 Timothy 2:11-13

Highs and Lows
The part I disliked most was the long distances we had to drive and sometimes on the worst kind of roads. It seems that more and more pastors and teachers are interested in taking discernment seriously. They are especially passionate about people returning to the Word. Sadly, however, many do not know the Word and many do not know how to preach Biblical sermons. One conversation I had with a student and a professor of a nearby Bible college showed that they did not even know some of the basics concerning Biblical roles of gender and Church government. Many people were excited at the fact that we were willing to tackle some tough discernment issues such as that of false doctrines, dangerous practices and the Biblical doctrine of healing. It seems that there are many people who are misusing the Bible to attract people to their churches. The result is chaos, immorality and shame on the body of Christ. More people need to speak out about these issues. “For as it is written, ‘The Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you’” Romans 2:24

Preaching in the Rain
After our Lusaka conference, I went to rural area. I had three different meetings with different groups of people. One group of people gathered together to hear me talk about leadership. We were all gathered together under a tent which we had donated to them some years back. Sadly, years of weather damage had caused the tent to be less-than waterproof. When the rain came down, the tent started to leak all over. Eventually, we were all huddled together in a small section of the tent where the water did not reach us. This turned out to be a good thing because the rain was so loud that I could not project my voice enough for all to hear. The tight huddle of people made it easier for me to speak to everyone.

<div id='566397570864005167-gallery' class='imageGallery' style='line-height: 0px; Leaders and church members walked from far distances, some from hours away, to attend the meeting in a small mud-brick building. We dealt with the beatitudes, discovering how Christ changes the hearts of His people to live according to His Kingdom standards. We also discussed the importance of preaching the true Gospel. Many people are in a constant state of discouragement due to the ongoing sin around them. I encouraged them that the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. A conversation I had with a group of pastors shed some more light on the discouragement people are facing. I asked these pastors what the most serious sins and problems are in their areas. They told me that sins range from adultery to drunkenness. But, perhaps a more pervasively subtle sin is that of witchcraft. It is pervasive because so many practice it. It is subtle because most people do it in secret. Adultery can only be hidden for so long before suspicions are raised, especially when a woman falls pregnant in the process. Drunkards will struggle to act sober when their drinking becomes a continuous habit. The sin of witchcraft however, is far easier to hide. One can visit a witchdoctor in the late hours of the night or early hours of the morning. An amulet can be placed in one’s pocket, cupboard, or under the bed without anyone else knowing it. Herbal “medicine” can be consumed in private. You can sin without anyone finding out and so long as the community of believers does not know, especially in cultures where honor and shame are very high ethics, someone can feel as though he or she has gotten away with it. So in this particular area of Zambia, these pastors were telling me that this is a serious problem. They shared that, providentially, God revealed that some people were practicing witchcraft through one local witchdoctor. I asked the pastors whether or not they had visited this medicine-man in order to share the Gospel with him. They informed me that they had not. I told them that they should. They do not have to be ashamed of the Gospel. It is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes. They have Jesus Christ, the Conqueror of the devil on their side. They were encouraged by this.

It Rains upon the Just and the Unjust
We ran another conference where we dealt with salvation and the supremacy of Christ over all other created things. We also tackled some practical Christian living issues such as forgiveness and contentment. Later, in the night, we showed the Jesus film. There were over 200 people who showed up for the film. While it was playing, the rain started to pour very heavily. Often when I get up to preach after the film, people get up to leave. They come for the entertainment, but leave before the conviction. Because it was raining, the people had nowhere to go, so they had to stay for the preaching of the Word. I called them to repentance and there was a sense of sobriety and stillness among the people. I had an open time of prayer where the people could call out to the Lord right where they were. I could not understand what they were saying, but there seemed to be some emotional cries out to the Lord. Afterward the pastors in the area commented that the people were really convicted by the meeting we had. The rain made the journey back to our rural accommodation very difficult as streams became rivers and bridges were submerged under rushing water, but I could not complain as the rain was a blessing which caused the people to stay and listen to the Word just moments before.

<div style="height: 20px; All too often people are interested in filling churches, but the people inside the church buildings are not filled with God. After the meeting two young men came up to me asking me to “boost” their music careers. I declined their request. The whole time I spoke to them, they did not want to look at me in the face. I asked my pastor-contact if there was some kind of cultural nuance that I was missing and why it was that they refused to make eye-contact with me. Another pastor told me that those two individuals had been drinking that day and they probably felt ashamed. This reminded me that the music industry within the church is such a dangerous thing. Many people make careers out of church music because they have a guaranteed audience every Sunday. They always have an opportunity to perform. If these musicians are not held accountable and kept in check, we could easily have many people who are not even saved looking to create a music career on the back of the Church and corrupting our worship.

Pray for Zambia
While we are grateful that Christianity is widely accepted and many people are open to listening to Gospel messages, people generally do not understand the way of Salvation. Many churches are caught up in the prosperity movement. Corruption runs deep in political sphere despite Zambia calling itself a Christian nation. Pray that those who are calling themselves Christians will develop a Biblical worldview, practice Biblical discernment and seek to be Biblical leaders.

“Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of His inheritance? Those involved in chaplain’s ministries were particularly delighted to receive the new, updated and expanded Chaplains Handbooks to equip chaplains working in the army, police, prisons, hospitals and Fire Brigade. Erlo Stegen, related the story of when his mother’s garden was dying. There was no shortage of water. He climbed up to the reservoir and saw that it was full to the brim, but still the plants were dying. Something was preventing the water from reaching the soil. He opened up sections of the pipe and sucked and at one point, out came a frog’s leg! As he pulled the frog out, the water poured out.

The Path to Revival
Rev. Stegen asked: “What is blocking God’s blessing in your life and ministry? Do not touch what is unclean! Come out of the world and be separate. You can accept Christ countless times, but if Christ does not accept you – then you are lost for all eternity! God does not tolerate sin. If you want God to work in your life and community, get rid of your pride, selfishness and blaming others. You want God to work in your relatives? Let God first work in your own life and work Godly sorrow to produce repentance with all your heart. Deal with your own sin! What is not right in your own life? God cannot tolerate pride. Whatever separates you from God - Separate from it. Do not just be a hearer of the World, but a doer. Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? He who has clean hands and a pure heart. Are your hands clean? Is your heart pure? Are your lips without fault? ‘Come out from among them and be separate…’ 2 Corinthians 6:17.”

Search Your Heart
You may pray for God's blessings over your food, yet are the plates and cutlery stolen?

You may ask God to bless your sleep, yet is any of your furniture stolen? Where do the sheets come from? Examine yourself. Have you stolen anything? Return it.

Do you have other people’s property amongst your possessions? Return what you have borrowed. Replace what you have broken. Make full restitution. Restore those broken relationships.

Take Up Your Cross
You can study Theology, but if your hands are stained with sin and you have unrepented evil in your life, then it will not help. God looks at your heart. What is in your heart? Some people want to cast our demons and yet their heart is a nest of demons. We cannot expect God to use us to reach the world while we hold bitterness, unforgiveness and pride in our own lives. Revivals bring separation from sin and the world. Are you willing to pay the price?

Back to the Bible
We had a tremendous time of fellowship with Christians from all over the world, precious times of worship and intercession. These two conferences were a great reminder that while Reformation is our work – as we seek to get serious with God and back to the Bible, applying the Lordship of Christ to all areas of life, Revival is a sovereign act of Almighty God.

Seek God for Revival
We must work for Biblical Reformation. We must pray and trust God, who alone can send spiritual Revival. "Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?" Psalm 85:6

Please pray for our Mission teams who are ministering across 7 nations.

Thank you for all your prayers, encouragement and support.

Yours for Reformation and Revival

Dr. Peter Hammond
Frontline Fellowship

P.O. These have been much anticipated and are needed for Christian schools and home educators in particular.

New Publications
A new, completely revised and expanded edition of the Chaplains Handbook, 140 pages, has now been printed and is enroute to mission fields and units across the border. An expanded edition of the Coalition on Revival's Reformation 500 FIRE Manual has also been printed, in time for the coming KwaSizabantu Ministers Conference in KwaZulu/Natal and Reformation 500 Conference in Lusaka, Zambia. A new edition of our popular Discipleship Training Manual came back from the printers just in time for our first Mission team to depart. We also completed a Part 1 of our New Testament Survey (Matthew to Corinthians) Manual for Bible students and pastors.

New Videos
Berdine and Christopher have been busy editing videos from our successful series of outreaches and events with the Eurochor. The Eurochor in Cape Town DVD is now available. More than 10 individual videos of their performances and messages presented at the Reformation Celebration events in Cape Town and Franschhoek are now available on our www.frontlinemissionsa.org website video library and edited together in a DVD.

New Tracts
We have also received new tracts from the printers, including Spiritual Diseases “Time for a Spiritual Check-Up, Risen“ Evidences for the Resurrection, Lukewarm Believers Make God Sick, Beveg Die Nuwe Dwelm and a German translation of the 95 Theses for Reformation Today: 95 Thesen fur eine Reformation Heute.

Reformation Conferences
Invitations to conduct Reformation Conferences in America, Nigeria, Zambia, Holland, Germany and Namibia are already being integrated into our programme for the year.

Religious Freedom at Risk
We have also been involved in exposing the serious threats to religious freedom in South Africa posed by government Bills being discussed in Parliament. To read on what is involved and how we were able to challenge the Deputy Minister of Justice at a public meeting, see: Threats to Freedom of Speech.

Digital Libraries for Restricted Access Areas
Christopher has also updated our William Carey Bible Institute Digital Libraries, which are now available, not only on data discs, but on SD cards and on flash drives to equip pastors, teachers, Evangelists and chaplains in remote and restricted access areas with a tremendous library of books, audios, PowerPoints, videos and study materials to equip, enrich and empower their Evangelism and education ministries.

Faith Under Fire
We have received disturbing reports of Muslim terrorist attacks against pastors and churches in the Congo, Nigeria and Central African Republic. We are also receiving reports of widespread starvation in the wake of the ongoing civil war in South Sudan. These kinds of questions require discernment and insight into the specific situations of the individuals asking. I did not want to incite rebellion within the members, so I carefully defined my terms and went through specific scenarios with possible solutions to problems. People should never be prevented from asking honest questions. Just because someone reads the Bible before he preaches, does not mean that his message accurately represents the Word of God. Everything that the preacher says must be consistent with God’s Word. The preacher should welcome anyone who wants to question him because everything he said should be directly referenced to the Bible and faithful to all of Scripture.

Jesus Film Outreach
The rural ministry continued with Jesus Film outreach. I preached after the film, but as soon as I stood up to preach, everybody started to walk away. Preaching to people’s backs is not very encouraging. At one point I considered stopping, but I continued to proclaim the Gospel anyway as most of the people seemed to have walked into the darkness. I made an appeal to anyone who wanted to call upon the Name of the Lord despite everyone walking away. I said that this commitment might cause people to walk away from them. About 30-40 people came out of the darkness and made public proclamation of faith in Jesus Christ. We should not allow apparent opposition, or lack of response, to prevent us from faithfully proclaiming God’s Word and calling people to faith, repentance and obedience to God.

Police Harassment
Our team travelled across Zambia for ministry appointments, and we were harassed by police all the way. At one point, they wanted to fine me for transporting people in the back of our bakkie pickup truck, telling us that it was illegal to carry more than two people in our vehicle! Thankfully, one of our travelling companions has regular radio program, and many people recognised his voice. The police warmed up to us when they heard him speak. I saw another policeman examining truck by climbing inside of it and snooping around. These pervasive policemen and women cause one to feel like criminal for no legitimate reason at all. While this may be seen as positive, requiring pastors to educate themselves, there is very real danger when governments interfere with religious freedom. This opens the door to future abuses of state controlled churches. However, this is to be expected when leaders are not faithfully speaking out against abuses within the Church. Vital doctrines such as the priesthood of all believers and the Person and work of Jesus Christ have been lost, allowing false teachers to place themselves as intermediaries between man and God.

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” 1 Timothy 2:5

Long-term Vision
In 2000, Frontline Fellowship set up Bible College in Zambia’s Eastern province. When I visited this college, the vice principal told me that many people come in to the Bible college with little to no understanding of Scripture, but there is radical change by the time they leave. Closely working with and mentoring these students is often rewarding because of the spiritual growth which occurs during the time of their studies.

New resources
Just in time for this mission, three new resources were made ready for distribution in Africa. After a night of being attacked by swarms of mosquitos, my skin had been turned into relief maps of angry red bumps and bites. Then blindfolded and shackled, we were taken to Lusaka where weeks of interrogations and incarceration followed. That was October 1987, when Zambia was a one-party dictatorship under Kenneth Kaunda's UNIP. Their official policy was socialist humanism.

Transformation
Zambia went through a dramatic transformation in October 1991, as 26 years of Kaunda's dictatorship came to an end in the country's first free multi-party elections since independence. The new president, Frederick Chiluba declared Zambia a Christian country and initiated national days of Repentance, prayer and thanksgiving.
I have had many wonderful opportunities for ministry, fellowship and worship in Zambia since then, ministering in churches, schools, teacher training colleges, to members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers, meeting with the President of Zambia, the ministers of Home Affairs, Information, Education and Foreign Affairs and ministering on radio and television, in prisons and military bases.

Livingstone Mission
This time I was in Zambia for the Livingstone Mission, which included the Livingstone 200 Missions Conference and outreaches and services in the area. 2013 is the Livingstone Bicentennial. Throughout Africa, and in many other parts of the world, special events have been arranged to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Missionary Pioneer, Dr. David Livingstone.

Victoria Falls
The Livingstone Mission also coincided with the anniversary of Dr. David Livingstone's sighting, mapping and naming of Victoria Falls, 16 November 1855. This historically significant milestone was marked by a special commemorative service at Victoria Falls on 16 November, with national television and radio covering the service.

Commemoration Service
The Mayor of Livingstone arranged for a television interview with me in front of Livingstone Museum and for free access to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and Victoria Falls World Heritage site for all those who wanted to participate in our Livingstone commemoration service. This was certainly the most historically significant time at the most visually spectacular venue, to celebrate the life and legacy of the best friend Africa ever had: Dr. David Livingstone.

Literature for Livingstone
Frontline missionaries drove up from Limpopo Province and from our Mission headquarters in Cape Town, Livingstone House. Approximately 2 tonnes of Bibles, New Testaments, Gospels, Theological and Discipleship books, audio-visual materials and Evangelistic tracts were distributed during the Livingstone 200 Mission in Zambia. Many dynamic ministries, missions, churches and schools were blessed with hundreds of Bibles and books for their outreaches, leaders, faculty, students and Evangelistic outreaches.

Sunday Services
On Sunday, 17 November, Frontline missionaries preached at 8 different venues. This included 6 different congregations in the morning and the David Livingstone College of Education chapel in the afternoon. I ended up presenting 3 sermons and one lecture on Sunday.

The Livingstone 200 Mission consisted of 50 meetings, including 3 radio and 4 TV interviews, 5 film screenings, 15 lectures at the conference and more at the David Livingstone Teacher Training College, presentations at school assemblies and outreaches on the streets of Livingstone.

Wonderful Wildlife
Driving up to the event, Frontline missionaries saw wild dogs, zebra, impala, gemsbok, springbok, ostriches, wildebeest, giraffe, elephants, rhino and lions. At our campsite along one of the tributaries of the Zambezi, we heard and saw hippos who grazed near our tents, crocodiles, either sunning themselves on the banks of the river, or swimming past, baboons, monkeys, a snake, eagles, storks, egrets and a bush baby.

Celebrating Livingstone's Faith and Legacy
The high point of the Livingstone Mission was the Livingstone 200 service on 16 November at Victoria Falls. Scripture readings, prayers and testimonies were presented by a Nigerian delegate, an American missionary, South African missionaries and Zambian pastors and Evangelists representing a wide range of denominational affiliations from Presbyterian, Baptist, Anglican, Pentecostal, Reformed, Evangelical and independent congregations, ministries and missions. Soon we were receiving phone calls from friends in other parts of Zambia, overjoyed at seeing the service covered on ZNBC (the national TV).

<div id='685612030320154784-gallery' class='imageGallery' style='line-height: 0px; Frontline Fellowship will host this Conference in Livingstone, Zambia. We met with the principal and chaplain of the David Livingstone Teacher's Training College, the minister of the David Livingstone Memorial Presbyterian Church, the manager of the Tourism Board in Livingstone, and the site manager of the Victoria Falls.
2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of David Livingstone - Missionary, medical doctor, slave liberator and Explorer, "the best friend Africa ever had."

Conference Presentations
During this conference we will focus our attention on the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
Presentations at the Conference will include:

What we can learn from the lives and examples of great Missionaries of the past, including an in-depth study on the life and legacy of Dr. David Livingstone,

Priorities for Missions today,

How to evangelise people clinging to false religions,

How to evangelise using the Ten Commandments, as the schoolmaster to lead people to Christ,

Great Revivals in history,

and much more.

Please consider joining us for this landmark event. There will be no conference fees, but all the participants will be responsible for their own transport, accommodation and food.

Books for Libraries
We donated books to chaplains, libraries, Bible colleges and pastors. The material was well received and the recipients expressed their appreciation for the books. One chaplain was overjoyed, and he said that the books would help him start his own personal Christian library. We donated books from respected authors such as Dr. R.J Rushdoony, Dr. David Noebel, Dr. Peter Hammond and Dr. Robert Morey.

Africa Overland Mission Team
We met up with our Africa Overland Mission Team in Livingstone, on their way to Namibia. We provided them with literature for the last part of their ministry and we encouraged one another. We were uplifted by their testimonies of God's grace and His provision and work in the lives of the people in the countries where they ministered. Over the past 7 months they have crossed 14 international borders, travelled through and ministered in 11 countries, conducted more than 390 meetings, and distributed almost 3 tonnes of Gospel literature and Discipleship training material including Bibles, tracts, books, audio CDs, DVDs, posters, and MegaVoice solar-charged audio Bibles.

Christian Action Network Conference
We had a meeting with Christian Action Network members in Zambia and elected a new chairman and secretary for the Christian Action Zambia committee. We urged the members of Christian Action Zambia to be salt and light in their communities and country. The country of Zambia is at a crossroads and Christians cannot afford to be silent.

Ministry
Our team ministered to pastors, elders, church members and children in southern and central Zambia. We were able to minister in both cities and rural areas. Some of the greatest needs which the church in Zambia include: Gospel preaching and discipleship training. Our team set out to meet these needs.

The Ten Commandments
Frequently, people will try to keep the Ten Commandments in order to merit their own Salvation. Other times, people will throw the Ten Commandments out the window, claiming that God's Law has nothing to do with Christians. It seems as though there is little understanding of the Ten Commandments and its place in the Christian Faith. We spent much time teaching that the Ten Commandments is our school master which leads us to Christ, so that we might be justified by Faith.

"Therefore the Law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith." Galatians 3:24.

We used pictures to illustrate the Commandments and taught the course participants how to memorise them. We also dealt extensively with each Commandment, showing how each one applies to us today and how each one of us has broken most, if not all of these moral Laws.
Teaching the Ten Commandments may have been the most productive ministry we did. One Bishop said "From now on I am going to teach the Ten Commandments to my church every Sunday."

Dangerous Doctrines
It is so important to carefully examine what we believe and why we believe it. In many African churches, there is a very flimsy view of Salvation. The common view of Salvation can be summarized by the following statement: "You are saved by praying and confessing your sins, but if you sin after you confess your sins you will go to hell until you confess your sins again." There is very little emphasis on the power of God to resurrect the spiritually dead and to keep them in the palm of His hand until they are glorified in Heaven.

"Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified." Romans 8:30.

Overcoming Challenges
Besides the usual communication challenges one faces during cross-cultural Missions, we had many other obstacles to overcome. While in Livingstone, our whole team came down with stomach sickness but despite some discomfort and pain, we continued with the ministry asplanned. We were preaching with fevers, stomach aches, headaches, sore throats, etc. John also lost his voice for two days and was reduced to being a hoarse whisperer! By God’s grace he was able to preach twice on the next Sunday.

While presenting a Reformation Conference in Lusaka, we had to compete with the booming noises from a wedding, only a few meters away from our venue and a noisy tipper truck dumping its very dusty load right outside the door! We were confronted with many distractions, yet we were able to conduct some very productive ministry. Praise be to God for the success of the ministry. We thank the Lord for the restoration of our health and providing us with strength for His service.

Successful Sermons
The most frustrating obstacle one faces as a teacher, is when people do not understand the concepts and principles you are trying to teach. This has been a constant battle when dealing with various topics, especially Salvation. Many people struggle with the doctrine of Salvation by Grace alone, through Faith alone.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9.

During this Mission, it seemed as though everything we taught was being absorbed by the people. We were pleased with the positive responses and enthusiasm displayed by those attending the lectures and sermons.

Children's Ministry
The enthusiasm of the children was encouraging. Apart from the extensive Sunday School teaching done by Michelle on the Sundays, we also had children who were eager to learn more about God and His Word during the evenings, when our ministry was completed for the day. On more than one occasion, excited children came asking us to come and teach them! They wanted to learn more memory verses and understand what the verses meant. At times they would even stop us from playing with them to teach them more about the Bible. One little girl said "God's Word is more important than your life."

The Lordship of Christ in all Areas of Life
God's Word has Divine instruction for all areas of life. We did a number of different presentations dealing with a range of theological and practical principles and instructions. Some of the lectures included: "Full Salvation", "Repentance", "God and Government", "Discipline", "The Greatness of the Great Commission", "Poverty – Its Causes and Cure", and more. In total, we conducted 51 meetings.

Some Concerning Observations

Zambia and Zimbabwe jointly hosted the recent meetings of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Livingstone and a great effort was made to welcome the going-on-90-years-old, Marxist dictator, Robert Mugabe.

The Lusaka International Airport was renamed to be Kenneth Kaunda International, one of the first places to be re-named after Michael Chilufya Sata became president.

A growing dissatisfaction with their president is evident from the Zambian people. Recently, subsidies on food and fuel were withdrawn. When a group of pastors sought to peacefully protest, they were denied a permit to do so. Later, when they met together, they were intimidated to be silent by a mob of 100 thugs inside the church where they prayed. Some of them were hospitalized after they were beaten with whips and axe handles. Some of the pastors are on record stating that these thugs were identified as PF supporters.

Anyone wanting to do pubic speaking needs a state permit in advance and should be sure that he will be watched.

In Zambia, under the banner of "children's rights", families have already lost their Biblical responsibility to discipline their children in the way that the Bible commands.

The Zambian fuel price has gone up by R3.11 since our Mission in April, putting it around the R18/litre mark. This also coincides with the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Entering the country by road, with a motor car (depending on the engine size), we have to pay R300-00 for "carbon tax", $20 (that is US Dollars) for "road tax" and also R80-00 for a local "council levy".

Accommodation is also heavily taxed, to the point where it is cheaper to tour and use luxury accommodation in Israel than in Zambia.

We saw many Chinese people working on road construction contracts and also noticed Chinese construction machinery and vehicles and exclusive Chinese neighbourhoods.

A little girl was kidnapped from her home and fortunately found the next day, in a remote area, her hands and feet bound with wire. Human trafficking is on the increase.

Some of the richer "bishops" (or celebrity pastors) rarely visit the poorer branches of their churches, and when they do, they do not stay in the houses of the village pastors, or offer them a ride in their cars. The office of a pastor has been elevated to the status of a celebrity that demands a nice car, and bodyguards.

Since David's first visit to Zambia in 1991, the social life in the country has changed dramatically. During the communist days of Kaunda, the people were oppressed and the economy, social structure, roads, and towns were in shambles. Although the people were very poor, they realized their dependency on God. Today, the balance has shifted so that most people seem comfortable, the country is prospering but worship services have become superficial and preaching is lacking in depth and often without Biblical foundation.

Sata and Mugabe
It is alarming to learn who the friends of the president of Zambia are. After the rigged election in Zimbabwe, with the AU and SADC turning a blind eye and the apathy of the rest of the world, one should ask what Sata has gleaned from his Marxist friend, Mugabe's terrorism and destruction in Zimbabwe and what he is planning for his country. Does he plan to reinstate a socialist model and intimidate all those who dare speak out against him? He also has the same help as Mugabe from the Chinese, who no doubt are busy with a new Asian colonisation of the country. The high road taxes and heavily taxed accommodation suggests greed and covetousness.
"Although the country has officially been a Christian country since 1991, it is sad to see that this has not made a more significant impact on the country." (Operation World)

Humanist Pressure
Zambia has been under external and internal pressure to adopt a secular constitution and despite its Christian foundation, the laws seems to be relaxed on moral issues. The gradual increase of prostitution and the tolerance of pornography, will lead to a rise in human trafficking. This is confirmed by the incident of the kidnapped girl and other cases of people disappearing. It is equally sad to learn that "bishops", or rather, the overseers are not overseeing and seemed to be more interested in their own status and comfort than the spiritual welfare of their members. Is the church being moulded by the world to conform and compromise to its demands?

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God". Romans 12:1-2.

When the Church loses its saltiness it can expect that their precious freedoms will be lost on several fronts and regression into paganism will progressively take place.

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men." Matthew 5:13.

Pray for Zambia
We are optimistic that God can turn any situation around very quickly. We will keep on ministering to the people of Zambia with the expectation that they will rise up and stop the infiltration of humanism. It is a joy and privilege to serve those leaders who are honest, hard-working and faithful to God's call on their lives. Please pray with us that more Zambian's will be obedient to the Great Commission and that Revival will come to individuals, families, churches and communities and those churches will become Mission centres and start sending out Missionaries from Zambia.

"Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! There are approximately 11.5 million Christians, which means that 86.95 % of Zambians would at least claim to be Christian. Zambia shares her border with 8 other Countries and is in a very strategic place to be a missionary sending country. These statistics seem positive, yet instead of being a nation primarily focussed on being a blessing to Africa, Zambia has more missionaries going into the country than going out. This seems strange for a nation which has so many Christians.
During our Mission to Zambia, we scratched below the surface of much of what is called "Christianity" in Zambia. We found warm hearted, devoted Christians, as well as many lukewarm church members. As we ran courses in different areas of Zambia it became apparent why the statistics of Zambian Christianity are so puzzling.

Labouring in the Word
"Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus" Colossians 1:28
At all the conferences we ran throughout Zambia, we focussed on the message of Salvation. In some of the areas we went to, it was not the first time that we emphasised the message of Salvation. In one town we visited, we were able to preach two Sunday sermons, give two Sunday morning Bibles studies and run a three day Discipleship Course. We made sure that the message and meaning of Salvation was preached and expounded upon. After all the emphasis we place on the message of Salvation, we were sure that, even if they were not Saved, they would know how to become Saved. To our shock, there were still those who had no clue as to what Salvation means or how to partake of it.
One missionary had the opportunity to speak to a group of youth on a Sunday afternoon after church. Some of the youth were part of all the meetings we held. The missionary gave them a Gospel presentation and then proceeded to ask them questions to gauge their understanding of what was said. It seemed as though all the youth who were listening still had no clue as to what Salvation is. Most of them either could not give an answer when asked "what must someone do to be Saved?" Others answered that you must obey Christ in order to be Saved. It was apparent that all these youth had at some point been fed a works based salvation, and that is where their hope was lying.
Preach the Word
“Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Acts 2:37
True Gospel preaching seeks to awaken people to the sin in their lives. It cuts their hearts and makes them plead: "What must I do to be Saved?" Unfortunately messages like these have apparently been neglected. Most people are not coming to the realisation that their sin is so vile that they need the cleansing which only Jesus can offer. Instead they think that they are not such bad people and with a little help from God they can live good lives and attain their Salvation through their own abilities.
While we were running a Biblical Worldview and Discipleship Seminar, we taught people how to Evangelise using the Ten Commandments to show a sinner his need for a Saviour. Sadly, however, when we heard report backs from those who had gone evangelising, we saw that many were using the Law and leaving Christ out of the picture.
Once again, we could see that people had been indoctrinated into believing a works based salvation and were telling people that in order to be saved they need to do more works. After the frustrating report backs, the next day we continued to explain Salvation by Grace alone. We sent the participants out and the report backs significantly improved. People were being led to Christ!
“Wherefore the Law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith” Galatians 3:24
Pastors and Pew Warmers
“be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” 2 Timothy 2:15
During one of our Discipleship conferences we had the participants write a Bible Exam. This included pastors, church members, elders and Bibles students. The Bible Exam contains 128 multiple-choice questions. After marking the Bible Exams it was evident that many pastors, Bible students and congregant members do not read their Bibles. We hope that the results will encourage all the participants to read their Bibles more. The task of Discipleship is far from complete in Zambia, where a love for God, for the Word and for prayer should be more evident. A Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ should have a Biblical worldview. One of the bishops we were working closely with during this time, shared his concern regarding these results. He told us that: "People can tell you anything you want to know about the world but they cannot tell you anything that is in the Bible!"
Eager to Evangelise
“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” Romans 1:16
At one course, we laid an emphasis on the need for Evangelism. We took the participants on a practical evangelistic outreach. One woman said that she was "afraid to speak to strangers at first but, after I had started, I realised I had nothing to fear". After an outreach, one bishop expressed that he "feels like a fulfilled Christian". The excitement about the Evangelism was contagious and people couldn't stop talking about their experiences and how much they enjoyed sharing the Gospel. A pastor's wife said that "The women in our church always get together and moan. From now on we are going to gather in the streets instead of the church and focus on the lost instead of moaning."
Positive Participants
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God" Romans 12:2
Some of the messages we presented were: Full salvation and Repentance, What is a Christian?, God and Government, Rediscovering the Christian Work Ethic, Suffering and more. Many people were so grateful for the lectures and teachings. It was apparent that some people were really taking the Scriptures and principles we shared to heart and that is always a highlight in any Mission. After presenting "Rediscovering the Christian Work Ethic", one man was inspired to take his job more seriously. We saw him at a shopping centre and he was full of joy when he saw us. He greeted us warmly and showed us the place where he worked. He told us that he is working for the glory of God and that even if someone throws rubbish on the ground he will pick it up to the glory of God. After hearing the presentation on "Reforming our families" one man said "this is something that the people need to hear". At a Pastors Conference we spoke on "The Greatness of the Great Commission" and a pastor stood up and declared that "We have not been taking the Great Commission seriously… I believe that the Holy Spirit is speaking to us through you…"
Fellowship with Pastors
"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" Psalm 133:1
During our Mission, we had the privilege of staying with local pastors. We were able to build relationships with them and learn more about their history, vision and struggles. Some of our best ministry and counselling was during this time. To be sure, there were barriers we had to overcome, like different cultures, languages, customs and food. Thankfully these were obstacles which could be overcome and sweet fellowship could be shared with our brothers and sisters in Christ. This makes one convicted about the petty challenges we allow to come between us brothers and sisters at home.
Livingstone 200
Part of our Mission was to plan for the Livingstone Bicentenary events happening in November. We will be running a Missions Conference for leaders from Zambia during 13-18 November where we will look at the Extraordinary Life and legacy of Dr David Livingstone as well as commemorate the discovery of Victoria Falls. Missionaries from Frontline Fellowship, as well as Dr Peter Hammond the Director of Frontline Fellowship will be presenting lectures to the attending leaders. By God’s grace we were able to meet with the Chief of Livingstone, the Zambian Tourism Board, the manager of Victoria Falls, as well as many leaders, pastors and bishops to help promote this event. We hope that this event will inspire pastors in Zambia to take the great Commission seriously and be encouraged by the extraordinary example set before us by Dr David Livingstone.
Items for Prayer
Please pray for the continual growth of Zambian Christians, who need solid Biblical teachings. Please pray that those who are not truly Saved will come to the Saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Please will you also join us in prayer for the upcoming Livingstone 200 events to be held in November. We are trusting God for the success of this event.
"…Repentance and Remission of sins should be preached in His Name to all Nations…" Luke 24:47
David Frew and John Clifford

Frontline Fellowship
P.O. The campsite was all grown over and dilapidated. The perimeter fence had broken down in numerous places and we soon discovered that we were the intruders in a territory of wild animals.

Hippo Hollow
I saw yellow eyes reflecting from high up in the tree, which I thought might belong to a leopard. A buck darted off in one direction. We heard the familiar grunts of hippos, but this time very close. We heard the sounds of a nearby heard of elephants grunting and sniffing at the intruders who had disturbed their evening grazing.

Unstable Platform
We heard the sounds of branches of trees breaking as if some large creature was coming crashing through the bush. We climbed to the safety of a raised camping platform, only to find that the platform itself was very shaky, rotten and in disrepair. Of course, these platforms are also easily accessible by leopards. It all made for an interesting situation.

Chaplains Training Course
At Livingstone, close to the Victoria Falls, we began our Chaplains Training Course early the next morning. I presented Livingstone the Liberator, Biblical Solutions to Crime, Crime and Corruption - A Christian Response and The Way of the Master Evangelism Training.

Mission to Zambia
These presentations were eagerly received by the District Chaplains who were taking notes and asking questions. We then were able to equip the chaplains with Frontline Fellowship's Chaplains Handbook, Chaplains Prayerbook, Practical Discipleship and Mark Cahill's booklet: The Second Greatest Lie. Those chaplains who had access to a computer, also received our Biblical Worldview Seminar data disc.

Audio Visual Materials
We also left a library of DVDs and MP3s for the chaplains to draw from, including: The Biggest Question, Amazing Grace – The History and Theology of Calvinism, A Call For Discernment, Islam Rising, Basic Christian Teaching and Training Boxset and Muslim Evangelism Workshop.

Great Commission Seminar
At our next venue we were impressed with the preparations that had been specifically made for our seminar. A special shelter had been built from grass and sticks, able to accommodate approximately 300 people. We soon found that many of those who had gathered for the Great Commission Seminar were actually in need of evangelising themselves. We presented the Way of the Master and used the Law of God as the schoolmaster that leads us to Christ. "The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul." There were many questions and comments and I was able to counsel some young men to Salvation.

Multi-Media Ministry
We also presented The Greatness of the Great Commission, God is Able to Use Me, and Hearing and Doing. We then showed the Jesus film and the Mandla film. After the Jesus film we counselled two people who responded to the Gospel and surrendered their lives to Christ.

Ministry in Lusaka
We left at 5:30am to make our Sunday service in Lusaka at 8am, where I preached on Outrageous Courage. This worship service was blessed by God and the believers were joyful and enthusiastic. The message was well received and the people were responsive. The preaching was often interrupted with shouts of Amen and Halleluiah! The sermon centred on expounding Romans 1:16. We are obligated to preach the Gospel. We must be eager to preach the Gospel, and we must not be ashamed of the Gospel.

Please Continue to Pray for our Mission to Zambia
After this we went off to another church service where I preached on Motivated By Mercy. This week we have a Great Commission Seminar and a Discipleship Seminar.

We are very grateful for your prayers and support.

Yours in His service

Michael Watson
mike@frontline.org.za

Frontline Fellowship
P.O.
