![]() “The Lord gave the Word; great was the company of those who proclaimed it:” Psalm 68:11 New Bibles for Africa Video On my first cross-border Mission to Mozambique, 1982, I was told: “The missionaries taught us how to read. But it was the communists who gave us something to read.” This shocking statement inspired me to give highest priority to providing Gospel booklets, New Testaments, Bibles and discipleship materials throughout Africa. It led me to approach authors and publishers to ask for donations of any damaged, or shop-soiled books, or those with binding problems, that they should rather donate these to our Literatur4Africa ministry. Initially, we received parcels, then mail sacks and for the last 18 years, container shipments of tonnes of Bibles and books to carefully, prayerfully and strategically distribute to those who would most appreciate, best use and apply these strategic Scriptural resources. Now Ndumiso has completed a 15-minute video documentary: Bibles for Africa. This will give you an overview and insights into some of what is involved in this far-reaching literature ministry. Please view it and share it with friends and family. If possible, screen it to your Sunday school or Bible study groups. ![]() More Than 100 Million Church-Goers in Africa Do Not Yet Have a Bible Operation World informs us that there are 500 million people who identify as Christian in Africa. Over 100 million church-goers in Africa do not have a copy of a Bible, or even a New Testament. The needs are great, the opportunities are huge and urgent. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17; “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” Romans 1:16; You can also read our article Literature Shipments Offloaded Despite Lockdown Limitations, with pictures on our website. “So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 ![]() Video Tribute to Sudanese Co-Worker Rev. Jeffreys Kayanga Last month we learned that one of my most trusted friends and co-workers in Sudan, Rev. Jeffreys Kayanga passed away after a short illness. We had walked many hundreds of kilometers together in the war zones of Sudan, conducting hundreds of services, outreaches and lectures in remote villages and towns. Please see the video tribute, which Ndumiso put together, with interviews with Jeffreys in the warzones of Sudan. You can also view an interview with Rev. Jeffreys Kayanga, filmed just after South Sudan won her Independence, 2011, click here. Jeffreys Kayanga can now declare: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the Faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 ![]() 20 Years Ago – African Penguin Rescue Operation 23 June will mark the 20th anniversary of the launch of the largest penguin rescue operation in history. Like many other Capetonians, I recruited all the friends I could and mobilised staff from our mission office in Rondebosch to head over to SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) to volunteer and help with the cleaning and feeding of oiled penguins as best we could. As the Chinese-owned MV Treasure had spilled over 1,300 tonnes of bunker fuel into Table Bay Harbour, oiling 20,000 penguins on Robben Island and endangering another 20,000 at nearby Dassen Island, it was the worst environmental disaster in South Africa’s history. Additionally, it occurred during the breeding season and the penguins had just had the largest number of chicks in recorded history. You can view a video of my presentation on this extraordinarily successful rescue operation, click here. Or, you can listen to an audio of my presentation, click here. A PowerPoint presentation on this is available, should you want to show this to your Sunday school class, or school, as an example of what volunteers can achieve with co-ordinated and determined action, click here.
